First Wedding of the Year a Success...

Shot my first wedding of the year Friday and had a great time and realized why I like weddings. I approach the weddings as a sporting event, you have four quarters, the prep, the wedding, the family photos and then the 4th quarter, the reception. Some of the photos in the fourth quarter are like shooting the final drive in a football game. You can shoot the first dance, but it is the final seconds that makes the moment, the kiss or dip at the end of the dance is the moment you want. If you don't get that moment, or the touchdown, you blew it. Here are a few photos from the wedding this weekend including the touchdown shot below.

Kick-off to the Wedding Season...

Tomorrow is my kick off to the official wedding season blitz. Starting tomorrow, I don't have a Saturday off until July 4th, and am still booking. Granted, I will be storm chasing for a few weeks starting on April 28th, but have a wedding or two every weekend for what seems like a long time. The weather forecast looks beautiful for tomorrow, no more snow!!!!!

Touching Father of the Bride...

Yesterday I shot a wedding in Michigan and came away with some pretty nice photos. My favorite of the day was when the father of the bride walked his daughter down the aisle and began to cry, the last few feet. It was a very touching moment.

McCoy's Custom Conversion Wedding Party...

Last night I shot the wedding of Sara Strick and Jim McCoy in Toledo. As we drove downtown to shoot some photos of the bridal party with the skyline, I spotted a cool mural painted on the side of a business along Cherry St. as we drove south towards the river. I told Jim and Sara about the find and they were game for some fun photos. On the way back to the reception, we stopped and I shot a few photos of them in front of the painted mural of of the Toledo skyline. As we started to leave, the owners of the shop came out to see what we were doing and take a peek at the photos. I showed them the snaps and the loved having their shop as part of the shoot. I then invited them, their sons and pet boxer to pose with Jim and Sara, the photo turned out to be priceless. A small bit of Americana with a bride and groom thrown in. Earlier before the wedding I met with another bride and booked two weddings one for her and one for her cousin, for next summer. It was a great wedding and a great day.

Nice Night for a Wedding...

Shot a wedding in Toledo last night, finally a somewhat cool day, unlike some of the weekends this summer. This wedding went flawlessly. The bride and groom were scheduled to fly to Jamacia today, but a bad boy named Ike, (the hurricane) might have something to say about that as it approaches Cuba today.

Waffle House Wedding...

I have never had a wedding like this Waffle House Wedding, but would love to shoot one. Americana at its finest. If you know of someone getting married in a bizarre situation like this, let me know, you might just get a great deal on some wedding pictures for your album. The lucky couple, George "Bubba" Mathis and Pamela Christian - both 23 and employees at the Dacula diner located at the Ga. Highway 316/U.S. Highway 29 interchange. Yee Haw! Would you please pass the blueberry flavored syrup? You may now kiss the Bride...

A Wedding on my Wedding Anniversary...

Sometimes things just have bad timing. This weekend was the eleventh anniversary for my wife Mary and I. I found out last week she was on call and could not leave Fremont, for a date night out for the two of us. I had the last minute chance to shoot a wedding in Michigan, so I took it. I shot the wedding on our anniversary day and had flashbacks all night to our wedding in Cincinnati in 1997. The bride and groom, Marnie and Scott had a great time and the reception at Walnut Creek Country Club was perfect. I got some great photos and I am sure the whole bridal party, that went above and beyond what was required to get some crazy shots, had as good of a time as I did.

Ballroom Blitz...

If you are a fan of the traditional Chicken Dance, the Electric Slide and the Hokey Pokey - you need not attend this wedding.

This weekend I went to Pittsburgh to shoot the wedding of Stephanie Goode and Steve Vieger. This wedding was one of the of the most unusual, but truly traditional weddings I have ever shot. The wedding was a totally ballroom dancing affair. The couple met while taking ballroom dancing classes and carried that theme through their wedding. Guests were offered a few quick dance lessons as they arrived to the reception  at the Soldier's and Sailor's Hall in downtown. Once the dinner was served, the newly married couple had their first dance, ballroom style before their friends and family.

The night was an elegant affair, despite the priest showing up to the wedding one and 1/2 hours late. I will post some more photos of the night in the wedding gallery on my webpage at allandetrich.com soon.
