I had a long and busy day. I took Noah to school and returned home to meet with my father to install a brand new screen door I had made Coppa Woodworking in California. My dad has every tool known to man, so he brought over his "workshop in a bucket" and we went to work. I had a door made to match the dark oak, mission style wood of our Fremont home.
The door came a little big so we slowly shaved the door to fit the existing opening. We cut a quarter inch or so off the height and then planed off over an eight of an inch from the long side to fit perfectly. After the door was the right size, we stained the newly shaved wood to match the darker wood. We made a couple of trips to Lowes for parts, and we hung the door with antique brass hinges and by the end of the afternoon, it looked probably like it did nearly 100 years ago when the home was built by a United States Senator, living here in Fremont. I also booked several jobs in between the installation work to keep my freelance photography work schedule full. We also installed a new mission style mail box to the relief of our mail carriers.
To top off the afternoon I visited my son Noah's second grade classroom to help him pick out a baby rat. This little rodent is our first venture into the small and furry pet zone. The rats name will be Merrill. I am sure there will be more to come on this subject...
