Our day started in Kansas City, MO, as the MESO team met up for our annual chase. We targeted Clarksville, TN for our overnight stay before heading to Alabama the next day. As we got closer to the target, we had several tornado warned cells ahead of us. We tried to resist the allure of the cells and the hazards of night chasing, but decided to pursue the cells anyway. We gave the storms a good cushion of distance, hoping to get some good lightning shots, but as we entered Kentucky, we had reports of a tornado on the ground near a Cadiz, Ky and set up for the intercept. We had some great views of a huge wall cloud as the lightning flashed. Then we could see a huge rotating tornado working its way NE and with my Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, I caught the tornado during a lightning flash. The tornado was reported by NOAA Weather radio and was also reported on the SPC website. After a 12 hour chase day, we finally got to our hotel at 4:30 am in the morning.
